Today would have been Sue's 53rd birthday. Those close to her cannot help but think of her today and again realize how much we miss her.

For those in attendance on 10-9-10 at the Brains Together for a Cure event thank you so much for your support. And to the hundreds of friends and supporters that have been with us throughout our journey - we are forever grateful! During the check presentation from all of you to the cause I shared the following comments...I hope it stays with you as you move forward with your journey's in life. God Bless! Ed

I am proud and honored to be here today to present the Brains Together for a Cure organization a check on behalf of all the wonderful people that donated money to our family in the name of our late loved friend, wife and mother – Sue Hruska. This check represents seven “ones”. Let me explain:

1)There is only One Mayo Clinic – with the leading neurology department in the world. They gave us Sue for almost 2 1/2 more years then originally diagnosed...we were in the best hands in the World. Also, the medical insurance coverage allowed us to pay our expenses in a manner we could afford - taking away additional financial stress.

2)We are fortunate to have One Canadian Honker – with an owner like Joe Powers. Joe always is willing to help out someone in need and covered our entire funeral service reception allowing us to donate more money to the cause...thanks Joe!

3)There is only ONE team of wonderful team of people working at the Mayo Clinic from the door person to the lab techs. The folks at Gonda 8 were unbelievable - thank you all.

4)There is One group of unbelievable friends, family and supporters - folks such as our Southpark family. The thoughtfulness will live with us forever.

5)There was only ONE Sue Hruska – a person that gave us an attitude we should always take with us every day in life, not just when dealing with terminal cancer. She made us all realize life is precious – enjoy every day.

6)We all here have ONE cause – the battle to eliminate cancer but specifically brain cancer – to allow those diagnosed in the future the best opportunity for survival and/or extension of quality of life. That ONE cause is one that brings us together today and we should never give up until we defeat this disease..

7)And finally, it will take every ONE of us to carry on all that we have learned from this experience – carry a smile, love your friends and neighbors. Never let the word cancer beat you – but live every moment – just like Sue did. She was the ONE that made us realize this. Let’s not let her down.

With this said – the ONE theme here is the number One. It is my privilege, in representing my dear wife Sue and our family, to present a check to the Brains Together for a Cure organization a check for $11,111.11 so we never forget the ones we love, the ones we have lost and the ones we are here to help in the future. After the past days we are overwhelmed by the love and care we have received from all of you - what a great honor to Sue.

Today's memorial service was moving and memorable. We would like to thank Pastor Shirley Heeg for her leadership and wonderful directing of the service. Tim Macken and the wonderful folks of Macken Funeral Home handled things so well - thank you. The folks of Church of the Savior as we as Church of the Resurrection were great in helping to assure we had a perfect service. Kim Schmidt's singing was beautiful. And, the food and service provided by the Canadian Honker was top notch!

Our friends and family members were there for us as always - thank you!

And finally - thank you to my two wonderful kids, Holly and Drew. They spoke from the heart today and did so in a manner that had to make their mother very proud!

It has been a challenging time for all of us - but together we have gotten through it. Sue is now where she belongs and while we will miss her immensely, we know she is watching us forever from above. God Bless - Ed

In His Loving Hands...

We are sorry to share that we lost our wonderful wife, mother, sister, daughter, neighbor and friend this morning. Sue passed away early today, July 11th, peacefully in her sleep.

Visitation will be at Macken Funeral Home from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, July 13th and at Church of the Resurrection from 10:00am to 11:00am on Wednesday, July 14th. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 14th at Church of the Resurrection, with a luncheon to follow.

As Wednesday, June 30th rolls around, Sue celebrates her 52nd birthday. There won't be a big party or a huge celebration - but perhaps a lot of reflective thoughts on what a wonderful 52 years it has been for all of us fortunate enough to have Sue in our lives.

Today Mayo Hospice delivered a hospital bed and placed it where Sue had previously requested it. As I gathered up some sheets (I had a difficult time finding them) and made this bed I realized what it was and what I was doing. It made me think of all the times Sue made our beds, always making sure we were taken care of - never complaining once. Yes, she spent 52 years making all our lives better.

I have not been able to get any comments from Sue that will give anyone warm fuzzies or make you laugh. It is a very challenging time for Sue...her days are long and without energy or vision she feels no purpose. I work each time we talk to keep her positive but it grows harder each day. She still has her wits about her and makes us all smile - she is in no pain. However, unfortunately, there is little joy in her days anymore.

Some friends from way back stopped by today and gave her a hug (Becca and Sally - see picture). She sat up and visited for a bit - being the trooper she always is.

I still read her all the cards, emails, blog postings and other kind words we get daily from all of you. It certainly helps makes this trying time much better. Happy Birthday, Susan Maree - you are one of a kind! Her loving husband...Ed

Update from Sue (6-12-10)

Dear friends, family and neighbors - Sue has asked me to update her blog to let everyone know she is doing fine. Most of her days consist of sleeping peacefully at home, a little television and enjoying some great things to eat.

She is not in any pain but has limited energy - so resting seems to be the best thing for her these days. Due to the great deal of time she is resting we have elected to usually take the phone off the hook and keep it quiet in the house. We have had time where we get out and spent some time with the neighbors but most of the time we are in. I am now going into work each morning, coming home and preparing Sue's lunch and working from home in the PM. I could not do this without an outstanding staff back at the office and a supportive board - thank you!

We plan to meet with Mayo Hospice Monday per the referral from Dr. Buckner (Sue's primary). We cannot say enough for the outstanding support we have received from Mayo. The whole group has been super..thank you!

Great things to eat...I say this because we have been amazed at the wonderful food dishes people have dropped off for us. And support - we even had the "kitchen ladies" come over and clean our entire house! I have Sue listen to phone voice messages, read her cards she gets in the mail and share peoples wishes I receive personally each day. You have ALL been simply amazing with your love, prayers and support.

Update - Recent MRI

We had our results Friday (May 21st) from the MRI and unfortunately it showed the tumors continue to grow. After consulting with my doctor there is really no point to continue the current chemo treatment. With this news I learned the road ahead is growing shorter - probably in the 3-6 month time line. While this is not the news we hoped to hear it is of no surprise to me or my family. The cancer continues to get the best of me and my abilities seem to be getting more limited each day.

My family has been very supportive and has accepted the news that we knew would someday be shared with us. We have been strong knowing it is in God's hands.

We have had numerous offers to assist and comfort me in any way as I continue through this journey. I am thankful for all your support, kind wishes and prayers. God Bless - Sue

Great Day at Target Field

Nancy and I had the pleasure of joining Sue and Ed for the Twins game mentioned in the Post Bulletin article in an earlier post.

I took a bunch of pictures which can be viewed by clicking here . You can see it was a beautiful day and the stadium exceeded everyone's expectations. Our seats were excellent along the left field foul line and in the sun.

We ran into Sue and Nancy's cousin, LeAnn and her husband Scott at the game.

Later in the game, a friend of the Hruska's from Rochester, John, brought us all into the suites upstairs and also gave us a "behind the scenes" tour of the new ball park.

All in all it was a great day. As the game wound down, we were glad to take our seats on the Light Rail for the ride back to our car in Bloomington. Sue used the 30 minute ride to catch up on some sleep.

It was awesome to be there and experience this with Sue. Her journey has been a constant example to us of determination, selflessness, and faith.

This wasn't the first time at the Twins with Sue and Ed - we had these seats behind home plate at the Dome about 7 years ago......

By Every time Justin Morneau hits a home run, Sue Hruska calls her son, Drew, with the news. OK, not so much when the Twins are playing on the West Coast (yawn) but you get the picture, she is a big, big Justin Morneau fan.And an even bigger Twins fan. We'll call her a fanatic."I just love 'em,'' she says. "My dad introduced me to baseball and I've been a fan ever since. He died in 1986 (Lowell Indrelle was 50 when he died), and unfortunately that was the year before the Twins won the World Series.''

Hruska makes sure she listens or watches as many games as possible."Tuesday was a bad day for me,'' she said. "The Twins had the day off.''An even bigger thrill is watching them in person.The Hruskas have partial season tickets and attended the April 3 exhibition at spanking new Target Field against the St. Louis Cardinals.Her first impression?"Wow.''On the scorecard, the Twins-Cardinals game was meaningless, but to Sue Hruska it was a milestone. A dream come true. A goal accomplished.You'lll see.

Hruska, 52, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in September of 2006."I was afraid that I would never see the Twins play an outside game in Minnesota,'' she said. "I told my son, if I'm still alive in 2010 we're going to the opener. Or I'll be an angel in the outfield."That was my goal.''

Hruska attended the game with her husband Ed and Sue's sister Nancy and husband Todd.Remember, when Sue was diagnosed in 2006, ground for Target Field had not even been broken.And when the doctor says the word, terminal, well, who knows?"You can't imagine the feeling walking into Target Field,'' she said. "The first thing I did when I got to my seat was to praise God. Next I visualized my dad being here. He would have loved to share this experience with me.''And then?"Then I thought of the next generation of all the young boys and girls who will be enjoying outdoor baseball with their moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas.''That would be Sue Hruska. Even given a terminal sentence, she was still thinking of others."

One thing about being terminal, things don't always have to be as bad as it sounds,'' she said, again bringing in a baseball analogy. "It hasn't always been easy following the Twins all these years. There's been years where it's been awfully frustrating.''Speaking of frustration, at one time, the tumors had vanished but cruelly reappeared on both sides of her head earlier this year. In late January she underwent even more surgery."She's been an inspiration to all of us,'' Ed said.

Now she takes one "huge'' dose pf chemotherapy once a month."After three-and-a-half years, I can handle the chemotheraphy,'' she said. "I still get tired but what can you do?''She's also losing some of her vision."When I was at Target Field, it was tough following the ball,'' she said. "You can hear what's happening and look around but I couldn't find the ball."It's OK on TV as long as the cameras directly follow the action but if I can't see it, I can still listen. And I do.''

Terminal is the cruelest word in the dictionary but for now, at least, the good guys are winning.Last fall Sue attended the wedding of her daughter, Holly, and now she met her goal of watching an outdoor baseball game in Minnesota.And next month Drew gets married.Can't wait."We're so excited,'' she said.And she's determined to make a return trip to Target Field""Go Twins,'' she said. "This is going to be a great season.''

April MRI

Wednesday we went in for another MRI. We were surprised and delighted to find out that the two areas of concern haven't grown much since the last MRI six weeks ago. One encouraging thing that we were told while meeting with Dr. Buckner and Dr. Parney is that the tests showed that the areas of concern were "cold". Apparently, when a tumor is "cold" it means that there is not much blood flow, which is a good thing because the blood is what feeds the tumor. So, all around, we were very happy with what we were told on Wednesday.

I started Chemo on Wednesday night, and so far so good! I have been getting more and more rest lately, and have been feeling better with each day.

Holly is here now and acting as my personal secretary...I have lists of things that I have her help me with and we are getting through them, and having fun while we do it! Drew and Keeley's wedding is now less than a month away, and you can't even imagine how excited we all are for that day to be here.

Sue hits the Target!

Many of you know Sue is a huge Minnesota Twins fan. When diagnosed with her cancer in September of 2006 the talks and plans of the Twins new outdoor ballpark were happening It was at that time Sue set the goal of attending the opening day of Twins baseball at the new Target Field - three and a half years away.

So Saturday, April 3rd, Sue, sister Nancy, her husband Todd and myself attended a beautiful spring day of outdoor baseball - at the new Target Field!

Sue shared a lot of emotions - several which she will share with you soon. However, surrounded by this beautiful new ball park, sitting with the warm sun and the brisk air - the sound of baseball everywhere, Sue had a big smile. She had hit her Target - Target Field...and those of us that know and love her never doubted for a minute she would! (posted by Ed)

A quick note to let you all know I am doing great!!!! I am just happy and find new joy in each day.

The eye sight isn’t better but it isn’t worse - so I am very grateful to be able to get around on my own at home

Ahhh now to the ball park. You cannot imagine the feeling walking into the new Target Field. The first thing I did when I got to my seat (by the way Ed found the perfect seats) was to praise God. Next I visualized my Dad being here – he would have loved to shared this experience with me. Finally, I thought of the next generation of young boys and girls that would enjoy this experience with their mom’s, dad’s, grammas and grandpa’s at this wonderful park!

Later in the game a friend of ours, John Wade – who served on the commission to build the stadium, gave us a behind the scenes tour. John also arranged a stadium tour for us last year in Fort Myers. I have been blessed by so many kind people, thank you John. We saw firsthand how unique and special this facility is. Minnesota finally has a stadium second to none - it is something to be proud of!

Spring is almost here - Update!

Greetings,

My process for postings has changed - my pool boy (Ed) is now entering everything because of my difficulty I am experiencing with my eye site. It's kind of fun having my husband doing dictation for me!

Anyway, things are moving along okay. We met with Dr. Uhm this week and they will be adjusting my medication some. My main challenge is that the steroids I am now on prevent me from getting normal sleep. I sleep 60-90 minutes at the most many times a day. While this seems okay Dr Uhm shared that the lack of healthy sleep leaves one washed out and drained - guess he's right because that sums up how I feel a lot of the time. Thankfully I have plenty of time to sleep so I feel fine. Once the new meds take affect I am hoping for a more normal sleep pattern.

Things are getting exciting as Drew/Keeley's wedding quickly approaches. Recently we have enjoyed the fun of two wedding showers. The first was organized by the wonderful people from our church - Church of the Savior. How nice it was to have them do this for our family - they are truly special people! Next was our family - I would like to thank my sisters (Nancy, Barb and Jesse) for the planning and organizing as well as all the wonderful people that attended. Not only is it fun to see the nice gifts but its an enjoyable time to see everyone. Thanks again for all your effort. We have one more in Tomah (with all the cheeseheads - Ed's comment here) which I am looking forward to on March 28th. That date also is our wedding anniversary, 29 years. Wow, what a lucky man he has been (Ed's comments here again)!

On March 30th I will have a test done on my vision. Dr. Uhm showed us how the two halves of each eye work together to create your vision and right now they are not. It is a lot like a microscope being out of focus. I can read some with things held to the right side of my face where only half the eye can see it. Once the item is put in front of me where both halves of the eye are used it goes blurry. The test will help them identify what type of glasses can be used to improve this vision - if any. We are learning the brain, and your eyes, are very complexed.

We went with Jill and Ben Boldt to the Orpheum theater last weekend and saw the play Momma Mia. It was fun and the Boldt's were great to spend the day with - thank you Jill and Ben for that experience! What's next, how about a little outdoor baseball! Ed and I have Twins tickets for the April 3rd exhibition game at new Target Field. This may be emotional for me to walk into the park as my goal, when diagnosed 3 1/2 years ago, was to be there when the Twins opened the new park. Let's hope its not raining and 35 degrees! Go Twins!

Sorry it has been awhile... we just returned last evening from an 8-day trip to the Southern Caribbean . I have a lot of phone calls and emails to catch up with.

It was an interesting trip as the weather was not what we have been use to. The first day was an all-day rain which the Captain earned some laughter referring to it as "quite yukkie" over the PA system. Least it wasn't snowing!

We eventually had sun and fun but it was the company of our great friends Chuck and Diane that was amazing. I was concerned with my recent surgery, worries about current brain tumors as well as other side effects I am dealing with from the cancer (vision and memory issues) but Ed, Diane and Chuck took good care of me. It was actually Ed who had two trips to the cruise ship doctor -come to find out he had a bad bout of shingles which caused him not to feel well through most of the trip. However we had lots of laughs and an amazing white water rafting adventure in Costa Rica. The Lund's are truly wonderful people and friends.

While we were glad to get home Wednesday evening I did have my MRI and doctor appontments today. Our news wasn't great but agreed we will try a few new things and hopefully find a way to get some quality of life as we move forward. My area the tumors were removed via the surgery a month ago have already returned. The swelling is what is causing the poor eye sight and my memory loss/confusion. So tonight I will start on steroids and a high dose of a new chemo called CCNU. Dr Uhm is hopeful that this may get a hold on the tumors.

I asked if it is possible to make it through June as I am so looking forward to the upcoming famly weddings (Drew/Keeley and Rachel/Lucus)? He is hopeful that if this treatment works I will get to not only attend but enjoy a few dances! I'm not a "Debbie Downer" but the way I have been feeling making it to July will be truly a gift.

So for all of you that I have yet to get back to, please be patient with me as everything I do right now is changeling. However, I am in good hands...God Bless!

I hope this day finds you warm and well. Here is an update for you on what I have been doing.

It has been a little over two weeks since my surgery. I have been feeling pretty good but I spend a lot of time resting or sleeping. Seems like I can be up for about a hour or two then I am tired. I get frustrated that I don't get more done in a day. I find it hard to stay focused on anything for very long. My vision is starting to get a bit better and I have learned to accept my limitations at this time. I have no reason to complain about anything as I have been very blessed through 3 1/2 years of terminal cancer and three brain surgeries. Hopefully it will improve with time - that is what the doctors have shared.

I look forward to the day I have energy to get something done - anything accomplished. Right now I find it hard to stay focused on anything as I start things but never complete anything. I am so grateful for Ed - he takes good care of me and reminds me there is nothing that has to be done. I have had these issues before and need to remember it should come back in time.

Once my incisions are all healed I will start another chemo treatment. It is an often used treatment that has very little side effects - mostly it will make me tired (whats new)! Also they will keep a close eye on my blood counts (once a week blood tests and I have to watch closely for shortness of breath or any lung problems). The nice thing is that it is a pill I take at home only once a month. I will start that around the first of March.

Meanwhile, we are blessed to take another trip with our good friends Chuck and Diane Lund. In 2007 we had a wonderful time touring Alaska for a week with the four of us. We had a blast and look forward to some days in the sun relaxing with friends.

Well I ache, but it isn't my head, it is my heart. How did we let that one get away? Oh of course we can use the old saying it wasn't meant to be. Darn it anyway! I guess another season full of Sunday after noon's enjoying the lazy boy, fire place and games will have to be memories for another year. It was a fun year and I enjoyed the season very much.

I am feeling really well, The only difficulty I am dealing with right now is my eye sight. Things are a little hazy, so it is hard to even write a email, forget about the check book. I am sorry ahead of time for all and many of my writing mistakes. I am doing the best I can for now. Dr's say it will get better as the swelling on my brain goes down.

Again thank you is way to simple to express to all of you for your thoughts and prayer's. I am so richly blessed because of all of you. To my family, thanks once again for your support and always being here for me. For all that wanted to be there and honored our requests to support from afar thanks so much. It gets over whelming at times. I hope in time to get back to all the emails and phone calls. For now please know all is going well, life is good. God is great.

Going home!

Sue and I are thankful for all the kind wishes and prayers we have received from everyone. Also, the staff here at St Mary's is so wonderful...how fortunate we are to have the best people in the world minutes from our home!

Sue enjoys reading your posts so please feel free to drop her a note. It will be plenty of rest when she gets home and oh yeah, that Vikings game tomorrow - watching it from home, as she predicted we would be.

In Surgery...

Mom asked me to keep everyone updated on today's sugery. So far we don't really have much to report...just that she went into pre-op at 8:00am, and surgery began at 9:00am. So far so good!

Grandma Delores, Uncle Mark, Dad, Drew, Keeley, Steve and I are here in the family waiting room and doing great. We will keep you updated throughout the day as we hear more!

I wanted to write to thank all of you for your blog postings, cards, emails and calls. I am so richly blessed by all of your love. You can't imagine the warmth and strength I get from all of you. Not a day goes by without hearing from many. Thank you seems way to simple, please know how deep my love is for all of you.

This week has been busying with tying up loose ends. Of course we never get it all done but at least Ed knows where to find things and how to pay the bill's if something was to happen. I think my stubbornness of making sure things are done the "right way" will bring me through the surgery with flying colors, plus seeing thee Vikings ! I never realize what a control freak I really am.

Just to give you all a little up date of our plans Steve and Holly are on the road right now. They are through Des Moines and so far the travel is good. If not they will stay in a hotel and finish the travel in the morning. I will do another MRI and pre-op in the morning. Then our hope is to spend the rest of the day Thursday just being together. Holly has agreed to update the blog on Friday - we don't know yet where I will be on the schedule. My mom, brother, sisters, some nieces and nephew's are coming to be together with Ed and the kids while I am in surgery. I am hoping to be home for the game on Sunday evening - at the latest.

Good evening!

It has taken me a few hours to get my thoughts together, plus try to get rid of a nagging headache. Ed and I met with the surgeon today. After listening to the pros and cons we have decided for me to have another brain surgery on Jan 22nd (3 is a charm right!). A big part of me really did not want to tell anyone. It would be so much easier, and less attention to just let people know after the fact. But things always have a way of getting out and I thought you might as well hear it from me. Dr Parney will do surgery on the right side which is the larger of the two. As always there is always a risk with any surgery. But I will do anything possible to make Drew and Keeleys wedding in May, and my niece Rachel and Lucas in June. This we feel will give us the best chance. I know people are always wanting to know what they can do for us. Just your prayer's, especially for Ed and our children (all four of them). this whole journey hasn't been easy on them but they have handled it with such grace.

January Update

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!

We were just told that the spots they are watching have on both sides almost doubled in size. They are still not sure if tumors or scar tissue. They will take me off of both my clinical trail and chemo drugs at this time. Because if they are tumor's the treatments are not working. Dr Buckner is going to meet with the radiologist and surgeon to get their opinions on the last scan. If possible they will biopsy one of the spots to see if they can get a better idea as to what is going on. For now we will let the drugs I have been on work out of my body. Then hopefully have a biopsy and regroup. If they are tumor's we will try a new chemo drug, possibly SAHA with Bortezomib. In all honesty I am trying my best to stay very optimistic, however I am also a realist. I know what my prognosis is, and how very blessed I have been thus far. So for now we will wait and hope for the best. God continues to hold me in the palm of his hand.

Christmas with Ed, myself, Steve, Holly, Drew and Keeley was celebrated Dec 17th in Kansas. Holly and Steve did such a wonderful job hosting our Christmas, everything was perfect. Drew and Holly put together some fun games for the family to share together. The laughter was plentiful and we had such a great time. One of my many wonderful gifts was a family picture which the kids and Ed set up to have done at the Owen's home.

On Christmas day dad's mom Arlene had Ed and myself at her place to celebrate. She did such a wonderful job. Then on the 26th we travelled to Sartell (just north of St. Cloud) my sister Barb and her husband Steve put together a wonderful time for all of us. We had teams and a huge scavenger hunt. Followed by a delicious dinner, gift opening and time to remember our favorite memories of the pass. The laughter and remembering of all our precious time together will remain with us always.

A quick update to let you know how the MRI turned out today. Well...... it was very interesting. the findings are inconclusive. Meaning the radiologist is now reading that the spots have double in size but the once assumed tumors may be scar tissue from radiation in both spots??? My oncologist isn't sure about that, but there isn't enough evidence to say for sure that it is scar tissue or tumors. So they will repeat the MRI in 2 1/2 weeks. Call us crazy but we are choosing to consider this a good report. I think once again it is a blessing from God. We will go into the Christmas season with light hearts and hopeful thoughts. We will once again have a wonderful Christmas as I am sure all of you will. I will continue treatments as I have been , until we have a little more concrete information. I will keep you posted in any new developments. Just to let you know treatments are going pretty well, a few side effects but nothing that I can't handle at this time.

Good morning, I woke early today to try to finish up some things before I start treatment this morning. I read through all the resent postings and emails from all of you. You have no idea how much they mean to me. To be able to read them all, I draw new strength. I feel your compassion, that is such a pick me up! All any of us truly need is to love and feel loved. Please... Please know how much I love and cherish you all.
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away" I have had many moments that have taken my breathe away I am truly blessed because of all of you.

By now you have probably guessed I decided against another brain surgery at this time. Since there is a tumor on the right side and a concerning spot on the left. Ed and I talked out all our options we decided that a new chemo and clinical trial is our choice. I don't know how many more brain surgeries I want to experience. Also I feel that the treatments would be attacking all and any spots that may be in this noggin of mine. The new chemo treatment is Avastin which is given IV once every other week. Then the clinical trail is a daily pill to take at home. Most often seen side affects fatigue, high blood pressure, and kidney or liver problems ( that's terrible I don't remember if it is kidney or liver) oh well! This body has had so much poison what's a little more, if I can get another year of life. Actually it's amazing that I have had so much precious and amazing experiences since my diagnoses three years ago, and very little pain. If I haven't enjoyed every day, simple or amazing I am a fool. I also know how blessed I am to have worked at Mayo, they have allowed me to be off of work. There are no words to describe that blessing.

Well since my MRI on Monday I have tried to get things in order. I know once treatments starts I will be sleeping a lot. So the fridge is full, the laundry done, the house is clean I am ready for the next journey. By the way as I was finishing laundry today, I am reminded wthat a blessing! As some day I may not be able to do it, or do it with such ease. There are so many things we just take for granted.

Now for what I am so looking forward to. Holly, Steve and Soco will be here Wednesday night we will have a traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday. I am determined to make myself, Ed is a much better cook, but this is important to me. Maybe Holly and I can do it together (she is also a better cook then I). Drew and Keeley will be in Tomah with Keeley's side. We could wait until Friday to celebrate together, but that is moving day for Drew and Keeley. It is so exciting to be able to be a part of. ****By the way a BIG thanks to Jay, Linda, Dennis for once again selfless giving of their time. They spent many hours helping to stain, paint and Dennis installed the garage door opener at Drew and Keeley's new home.**** Once again what would we have done without you!!!!! :) Another moment that took my breathe away.

November MRI

Hi to all who follow my blog, I am always so humbled by the many people I run into that follow my journey. Please know the heartfelt hugs and encouraging words are never taken for granted. My MRI today showed a dime size tumor on the right side (which is the side I had surgery on last December). There is also a area of concern on the left side (not sure it is a tumor). Long story short, the surgeon will look to see if surgery is a favorable option. However it looks like most likely I will start a new chemo treatment and a new clinical trial. These treatments try to stop the blood flow that feeds the tumors. If the treatments works for me the tumor or (tumors) should start to shrink.

How am I doing? Very well, remember I have had 3 years to process this whole terminal thing. I would be lying if I don't admit it is like a kick in the gut at first, but then God comes to my rescue, and peace takes over. I am reminded so many times what a glorious 3 years I have had. I was just telling Ed this weekend how unbelievable 2009 has been. We started out in January on a cruise with the kids. May we helped Holly and Steve move into there first home, June Drew and Keeley announced their engagement. August Holly and Steve were married. November Drew and Keeley will move into their new home. It has truly been a blessed year with so much to look forward to.

Hi to all
I have been enjoying cheering on the Twins and Vikings, also made it to the Gopher game on Saturday. (Thanks Todd and Nancy for the tickets.) I loved the out door stadium, it made me realize if you dress for the weather, being outdoors is amazing. To look up and see the sky above is wonderful. As the Twins open their new Stadium in April of 20010, (which I am so looking forward to.) Remind me how much I wanted an outdoor stadium (but would have loved a retractable roof) and not to complain about the weather. We are from Minnesota! Go TWINS! GO Vikings,

We are finishing up our plans for this years Brains together for a cure. Our walk is this Saturday at RCTC field house. It is wonderful to have been a part of their lives for a short time, however it is hard when they pass. All of them diagnosed after myself, (but two.) I now know about survivor's guilt and wonder why I have been blessed to have had all this time. Since I have been part of the support group we have lost Elise, Greg, Mike, Fred, Kelly, Pat, Mike, Anne, Bruce,Tom . These are such brave, strong, kind beings with stories and a very real will to have lived. But when the time came they found peace in it all, and they always give me strength.

Good morning all my supporters and prayer warriors. I just got back from the clinic and another good MRI. I have been so blessed with so many wonderful months. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Your support and prayers have truly made a difference. The other day I stood at my kitchen sink cleaning tomato's as a cool breeze touched my face. I got goose bumps thinking that I have been blessed to see three falls and make salsa once again. These tasks are so rewarding and special for me.

I start my last cycle of chem today. The treatment's go pretty good for me, again what a blessing. After this months treatment as long as the tumors stay away I will not have to have chemo (yeah).

What am I doing? Well do what I can in the mornings, sleep and/or rest in the afternoons. Then the evenings I run with Drew and Keeley as they are picking out things for the home they are building (thanks guys for letting me be a part of that). Or sit with the neighbor's and enjoy this great weather.

We still haven't got back many of the wedding pictures yet. I will leave you with a few that we do have.

As I begin to write another entry, I find myself searching for words. It's not that I don't have things to share it's how to put them into words. As many of you know our daughter Holly was married on Saturday. It was a magical day for us, to be surrounded by our family and friends, to share the joy of seeing our daughter so happy and marrying such a wonderful man. Steve and Holly put together a wonderful wedding and reception. I was surreal to me, and reminded so many times that day how blessed I was to be able to experience that day with them. Also reminded of what family means. So many of the bridal party, aunts, uncles and cousins pitched in and helped in so many ways. It reminded me that "it takes a village" and that she is loved by many. She may be our daughter but many experiences with family and friends have made her the woman she is today. and how important it is to be surrounded by all of your love and support. Without all of you in our lives it would not have meant what it did. I can't help but think of all of the weddings, our sons, nieces and nephews and hope that I can help the way all of you did.

I will share a few pictures that I have. But will have to wait for the professional pictures to really share the beauty of that day.

I have been feeling great, one more week of chemo later this month. If my next scan is ok I will be done with the treatment plan for my last tumor.

It will be 3 years next Tuesday that I was diagnosis with terminal brain cancer. The life I have had and shared in 3 years has been amazing. I have been blessed.

Time to catch up, it is already August. It has been a jubilant summer. We have enjoyed so much between my treatments. My most recent blessing (which is usually everyday) is the fact that I will not have to have another MRI before Holly and Steves wedding. That is huge for us. This means that if things are going on inside my head, we will not have to deal with it before or during our precious daughters wedding. We can share a wonderful event with no dark cloud hanging above us. Again a gift from God, he has carried me to many wonderful days that I dare not dream of. His mercy and grace is unbelievable to me, he is my rock.

Tammy, Nancy and I made a road trip to my home town. Back in the day I would count all the people , dogs and cats, we barely made it to 100. Going back there stirred a lot of memories, my child hood home is gone and the absence of children laughing, riding bikes, playing was no where in sight. I guess that is what happened to small town USA. I am thankful for all the fond memories and realize home is always where family and friends are. I hope and pray as my children continue to grow they will remember back and have great memories of their childhood. It is their roots and a part of who they are today.

The wedding is a little over 3 weeks away. We so excited for that day, and so humbled by the many people from MN that are planning to make the trip. My next entry to this site will probably be after the wedding. So I will try to get pictures as soon as I can. Then, after that we will start on Drew and Keeleys. They have already done a lot and have a great start. Man , if I can make their special day and see them settled into a home, my life will be complete.

Good morning, yesterday I had my 22 MRI, Wow that is a lot! The two small spots they are watching have not grown. Dr. said if anything, they have shrunk a little bit. So, the hope of life continues. Ed and I have sat in that room so many times waiting to hear the results of my latest MRI. It has all become part of our "normal" every two months. It will be 3 years in September since we first started this journey. It certainly isn't something we would have ever picked, but we have come to find so many blessings in. You can't imagine how precious each new season, event, birthday, wedding, etc. is until you don't know if you will live to see another. Since I have been blessed to be into this almost 3 years I hope you never hear me complain. If or when I am to hear my time is short. I will not be sad for what I may not see or be a part of, but be grateful for all I have been a part of. You know the song "live like you are dying" in my opinion it is a wonderful way to live. You really learn to soak up everything around you, sit back some time, just watch and listen to the people around you. As I soak it up there is such a warm feeling inside of being a part of their lives. It's like the biggest, warm hug ever. I will try to get some pictures soon of the bridal showers.

Where oh where did June 2009 go? The last day of June I celebrated my 51st birthday. Thanks to one and all for the lunches, dinners out, cards, pies, emails, phone calls and gifts. I truly wish you would stop with all the cards and gifts, your friendships are all I will ever need. Plus if I do not stop eating out, I will have to find another dress for Holly's wedding. Also on my birthday I received a call from a childhood girlfriend. There is always something inside me that smiles when I hear from her. I remember all the times we walked to the "four corners" talked for hours, played captain may I on the church steps, ran through the corn fields playing hide and go seek. The nickel ice cream cones at the local tavern, the Saturday night roller skating and so much more. So thanks Kathy so much for the call, as you can see it brought me back to a simple time (although we didn't think it was so simple) and made me smile.

Also as many of you know, Drew and Keeley are engaged. .They are looking at a spring wedding. We are so very happy for them. We could not have picked a better daughter in law. She has already enriched our lives so much. So along with our already loved and adored son in law.Our family is now complete. We love Steve and Keeley as if they were are very own, and they are so good to us.

This is going to be a busy month. Holly and Steve will be here late Friday. Holly has her bridal shower on Saturday. Looking forward to spending a few days with them. The following weekend we go to Kansas for another bridal shower and Holly's bachelorette party. Then the following weekend we are looking forward to the Lund-Ullrich Wedding. Before we know it July is gone also. But, we are enjoying every day that were blessed with, every event that we are a part of. (even the 16 inning twins game on Friday night).

Wow....the power of prayer.... Ed and I spent last night talking about what is to come, so sure we were going to hear bad news. Then today when we met with Dr. Buckner and he told us the two spots have not changed at all, meaning they are still there but have not grown. We were shocked, not expecting that. So thank you for all your well wishes and prayer's we are so very, very blessed. Just when we think it's going to be the beginning of the end, we are given another gift. I will begin chemo again now and start tonight.

Good morning!!! Thought I would update my blog with what I have been up to. First of all I have been enjoying some beautiful sunny days, and nights sitting out with the neighbors. I enjoy that so very much. We have all lived in this cul -de- sac for about 18 years and I always treasure the times we share together. We have shared so much, and really have grown older with each other.

Thursday nights Ed and I bike to the ball fields to watch Drew and the boys he has grown up with play ball. These guys we have known since they were little. Ed had coached a lot of them in youth football. They are wonderful young men that will share a hug with me, and always thank us for coming.

In early June we have been working on the apartment we own. Ed, myself, along with Drew and Keeley have been tyring to get ready for tenants July 1st. We had some painting to do and were surprise when Lisa and Brain Hodge showed up to help, not only with their paint supplies and clothes, food and beverages. Dennis and Linda also showed up and put up new blinds. With their help, they took a long day and made it fun. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts!!!!

Myself and some of my girl friends spent a great day in Lake City. We sat by the lake, talked and looked back on the friendship we have shared for over 30 years. You know the kind of friends that you lose touch over the years. But when we do get together it's like we never left each others hearts. We had lunch at a cute little restaurant and then headed to Wabasha, and went though the small shops and sat along the river.

Ed has been taking some time off (mostly half days). Last Friday we took our bikes to Lanesboro, rode about 8 miles, then did a road trip on the way home. We laughed and giggled like we were teenagers again. This week Ed decided we needed to recreate our wedding photo. He called the church we were married at 28 years ago to see if we could get in to take the picture. It was a hoot, I couldn't help but think as I stood at the alter!!! I was a young adult that had no idea the beautiful life that was ahead of me. My husband would truly become my best friend, my family, my beautiful children and the wonderful friendship's we have known along the way. When Drew got to the church to take our pictures, he started to laugh. He had to think his parents are a little bit crazy dressed up in clothes 28 years old. (To let you know, I did get my dress on and zip, but I could not breathe).

God answered yet another prayer. Drew was hired on at Hartman Insurance, he starts training this week. I am not to humble to put this out here. If you are in the market for car, house insurance, give him a call in July. It will help him to start his new journey and would be so grateful.

Lastly I would like to explain something I have thought a lot about. FAITH, I think it is a word that I have used so often and not truly realize the DEEP meaning. I have come to know that faith is something that truly holds me together. It means to me no matter what, I will be ok. God is with me ALWAYS. Faith, I am learning is to truly give up the desire of worldly things and time on this earth, and to trust in God's plan for me. It's a sense of peace that frees me to live fully.

I will have my MRI results by June 23, we will see if the 2 new spots have grown. From there we will look at our options and our God will be right there with us.

FAITH.... what wonderful gift that we so often take for granted.

Our Memorial weekend

The Hruska family traveled many miles to share memories and great times. Ed was in Canada with his buddies 24 hour round trip. Keeley and Drew dropped me off in Kansas and headed off to Colorado to visit Keeley's new nephew. The hours they traveled 32. I covered 22 hours of highway, and Holly and Steve 8 hours on the road. Lots of prayers every day to get all to our destinations and home again. I thank God for all the safe travel. All the hours on the road were worth every minute. We all had such a great time. I won't go into all the wonderful things we did, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Meeting Steve's family was a lot of fun, they are so kind and loving. Holly is very blessed to be marrying into this family. While in St.Louis, Holly and I were able to reconnect with the Brodericks (some long time friends that have recently moved to St. Louis.) All of there kids were home for the holiday and we shared stories and a great meal together. The next day was Steve and Holly's bridal shower, it was so much fun to be a part of that day with her. A special thanks to Donna, Karen and Lisa who put the shower on for them.

Hi to all my wonderful blog follower's. I had my MRI today, they see two small spots located by my original tumor. They are small and not sure if tumors or scar tissue. I have been taken off of chemo for now. For two reasons, they are not sure it is working and they think the reason I get the body rash is because I am having a reaction to the Chemo. In four weeks will have another MRI and see if they grow or not. The good news is I don't start chemo tonight as was planned. Since we leave tomorrow for Kansas City for Holly's first bridal shower, I won't have to worry about being on Chemo. I have been feeling so good, and it will be great to not have to deal with the Chemo while I am away from home. I will just be able to soak in all of the beauty of being with my kids. My spirit's are high, I am very grateful for all of the wonderful event's that I have been apart of. Holly's wedding is 3 months away and I will be there to see our beautiful girl walk down the aisle, what more could I want. Drew was with me today as we got the news. He was wonderful, my baby has grown to become such a wonderful man. Again what more could I ask for. It was hectic but I was able to met some dear friend's for dinner, we sat outside and all was right with the world. Some one asked how I could get news like that and still met them, how can I not? That is the most important part, spending time living not dwelling on the what ifs. I have today and I hope to make the most of it. Thanks for all your prayer's and well wishes, I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for all of your continued support, love and prayers. I feel so very blessed to have all of you in my life. I will post pictures when I get back. Have a great memorial weekend, I know I will!!!!!

My treatments are going fairly well, during my week of treatment and the week after I deal with being very tried, upset stomach and a body rash. It was a difficult month for me. Not pain or anything like that, just a whole lot of doing nothing and reaching out to find a purpose in all of this. It's a process in finding my new "normal" and letting go of the of how life used to be and embracing my life now. I find myself frustrated - just existing and not living so I am trying to follow a schedule, to get a little bit done everyday- that way I feel like I have contributed something. I used to love spending time at home. Now, it's just getting old. I want my old life back with all the lessons I have learned from my illness.

Ed is so supportive, and does so much around the house. Still finds a way to keep up with all of his work stuff. I know this isn't easy on him. Working hard everyday and then coming home to a wife that is different from the one he has always known. We try to find humor it in all. The kids are great with frequent phone calls and visits, they always lift my spirits.

Ed and I leave for Kansas this week to help Holly and Steve move into their new home. I think this will be the "pick me up" I need. What a blessing to be able to experience this with them. We are so grateful. Holly knows I may not be a ton of help, but I will do what I can. And of course give her "motherly advise", I am never short on that. It will be nice to get out of town for awhile, a nice change of scenery.

I won't have my next MRI until end of May, so until then I will keep up with my treatments as best as I can, look at all my blessings and find peace in it all. I wish all of you the best.

Good morning all! Had my MRI yesterday and it was a clean scan. WOW wasn't expecting that, not sure why, but so very grateful. I am sitting at the computer looking out at a dreary day. But what I see is the third spring come in since my diagnosis the fall of 2006. My cup overflows with praise and thanksgiving for another season.

We started this month off with a trip to Twins training camp in Florida with Chuck and Diane Lund. Again, what a fun trip! We walked the beach during a beautiful sunset. Ed arranged a tour at the Twins facility and we met some of the players. Watching baseball outside in warm weather was wonderful. I am really looking forward to the start of the baseball season.

Holly came last Thursday and will be leaving today. It is long drive but I am so grateful for the time we spent together. Soco (Steve and Holly's dog) made the trip with her. I have never been a animal person, but she will be taking a piece of my heart back with her. Drew and Keeley spent a lot of time here while Holly was visiting. I don't have to tell any mom how wonderful it is to have the kids around. They really helped me through a anxious time. Today I will start my second round of Chemo, I am ready and willing to continue. All and all I am doing well, I had a brief pity party shorty after radiation (for which I am not proud), but letting it all out, really restored my strength and faith.

Well, as of yesterday I completed my 30 days of radiation and 42 days of chemo. I'd have to say it went very well, meaning very few sick days. I slept a lot, which is really needed to keep up my strength. A very nice surprise was the fact that I lost very little hair this time. What a blessing to not have to wear scarves or wigs. It sounds so vein but it is nice to go out, and about not walking into a room where your head attire screams "cancer". It's easier to feel part of a crowd then standing out in one. I won't have my next MRI until the end of March, so we really won't know until then how the treatments managed my tumor. Having spent the last 30 days at desk R reminded me of how many people are effected by cancer. A little four year old girl with a baseball hat sitting in her dad's lap everyday waiting for radiation with so much courage reminded me once again of the many blessings I have had. Will ,11 years old with brain cancer back for the 3rd time. I can not begin to imagine what it would be like to have your child in this situation. It's a different world in those waiting rooms, so full of hope and understanding of what we have been dealt. I don't see tears or sadness, I see one day at a time, one MRI at a time and in between a lot of great fullness for the day we've been bless to have. I have the month of March off of all treatments. Then will start a higher dose of Chem in April through October, as long as the tumors stay away. If not, we will look at our options at that time.

Ed, myself, and the Lunds head to Florida this week for Twins training camp. It is something I have always wanted to see. So the adventures continue, on the road again. I am so great full for each and everyone of them.

Hey my dear family, and friends. I just returned from the start of my 3rd week of radiation. After this week I will be half way done. All and all it hasn't been to bad, it makes me very tried and a couple days last week pretty sick. I don't remember getting sick last time from radiation, but maybe the combination of the Chemo and radiation got to me. Or maybe I had a bug, either way you forget how great it is to feel good unless you have a day of feeling like that. A few things that I know are coming, is the hair loss and more frequent blood tests to be sure my blood counts stay normal. I am trying to remember how nice it is to not have to worry about how my hair looks.

Since the return of our trip we have enjoyed getting out when we can. Hopefully those that I have been able to catch up with see a big smile on my face. Being with all of you gives me more joy then you can imagine. I draw so much strength from all of you. Sometimes when I am in a room full of people I look around and praise God for each and every one of you in my life. I see laughter, joking around, interactions that I would have never stopped to enjoy had I not been diagnosed with this. I know I need my rest, but it is when I am with all of you that I feel so alive. Thanks to all, I love you so.

January Update

We are back from a week in Paradise! Our cruise was all we hope it to be and more. Traveling went well, the six islands we visited were amazing, and the time we had being together was truly a gift from God. It was the first time in a while that cancer was not a part of our daily life.
We swam in the Ocean, played on the beaches, met the people of the islands, danced, sang around the piano bar, listened to Drew sing karaoke, which preceded with a standing aviation. I could go on and on but the best thing is to go for yourself. I mean it, don't put it off, you will never regret it.

I started radiation and Chemo on Monday, it is going well other than being very tried. I will have radiation Monday -Friday until Feb 27th along with Chemo. Then I will have a month off of treatments, followed by 6 months of Chemo (pills to be taken at home). All and all I am feeling well and not worried or losing any sleep. Once again God is great

Our Christmas was wonderful. Holly and Steve got here early morning of the 23 along with their sweet dog Soco. We were joined by Drew, Keeley, Ed's mom Arlene on Christmas evening. Ed prepared a delicious meal, we shared prayer, Christmas story, exchange of gifts. As usual Ed and his creative mind challenged us to a game of let's make a deal. Which ended with all giving donations to Channel One. Ed has always been an example for for us. He gives of himself, and donations to everything he can. It has been such a blessing to have Steve and Keeley join us on the holiday's. I feel like we now have four kids, we could not be more pleased. We love them like our own. Karen, Keith (Steve's parents) John, Chris (Keeley's parents) thanks so much for sharing with us your precious gifts, they have added so much to our lives. On Dec 27 we headed to Albert Lea to my brothers to celebrate the birth of Christ with the Indrelie side. Everyone but Keeley was able to be there. We had a WONDERFUL time, Jessie and Mark put together the 'Amazing Race". We were put into teams and headed out to meet our challenges. Once back from that we were treated to a great meal and time with each other. I love time with our extended family.The nieces, nephews have grown to be such wonderful adults and I love their hugs! Yours too Lucas (my nieces finance). I will try to get a picture of the group. Ed's sister Laurn and family live in New Mexico. Ed's dad Paul and wife Lois live in Texas for the winter. We stay in touch with email and phone calls.

I start radiation and Chemo 2 weeks from today. So you can bet I am trying to get everything done that I can and enjoying so much.

What a beautiful white Christmas. I hope this finds all of you with joyful hearts. I know that this time of year can be so full of stress and anxiety. But we have to STOP, and remember what the real meaning of Christmas is. God sent us his son, the best most priceless gift we can ever receive. If we receive this gift, we are promised eternal life, can we even imagine what that means? So as you finish the gift wrapping, food preparation, and our love ones arrive, lets make sure Jesus is part of our day. After all it is his birthday. To night before we climb into bed, lets all get on our knee's, lift our faces to heaven and thank God for the best gift ever. Let this Christmas be full of Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feeling really good. Met with the Dr's on Monday, they have agreed to let me wait to start radiation and chem until we get back from our trip in January. Again another great blessing.

Hi, I just talked to a friend, who told me I need to update this site more often. That people worry when I don't update the blog. Well sorry to worry anyone, but no news is good news.
I would think you have had a belly full of me by now. Seriously I am doing well, I get things done around the house the first few hours in the morning, then I rest. Angie and the girl's visited from Nebraska, Chuck and Diane came for a over night. When ever we can we get out to live this wonderful life.
I can have my staples out tomorrow, on Dec 22 we meet with Dr's to go over the treatment options. We will see what their plan is, but we are hoping to hold up any treatment until after our cruise in early January. We have been saving and planning since my diagnosis in Sept of 2006 for the 6 of us to go on a cruise. It will have to be pretty serious for me to start treatment before then. I will update the site monthly unless something changes in my health, then will will let people know asap.

I have been home recovering since Wednesday, and I am feeling good. There is no place like home. I am getting plenty of rest,. I can not write anymore about me until I share and grieve with so many the loss of Kelly Swee on Monday. While I was preparing for surgery, Kelly lost the battle of brain cancer at the age of 40. She was the mother of 2 young boys, wife of an incredible man and friend to so many of us. I have heard many times of my strength, but let me tell you, I never stood a candle to her strength. To know her was a great blessing to my life. We have lost several dear friends, Elise, Greg, Mike, Fred,Kelly) this year. I will continue their fight as they will be with me always.

I don't know where to start or say thanks any more. It seems way to simple, for what you have all done for me. First Ed your love and support is what keeps me grounded. Holly, Drew, Steve, Keeley you have know idea of the joy you give me daily. Barb, Ashley, Steve, Holly thanks for decorating the house for Christmas, it is beautiful and helped us out so much. To all my family, and friends who came to support me, to all of you who followed the blog (special thanks to Hol), to all who wrote me notes. You you can not imagine the joy I feel to read all your encouragement to me and our family.

Have a few weeks before we meet with radiology and Oncology to see when we begin the next round. God keeps us strong and we are not wasting one day being sad, or worried. That to us is a waste of time and energy. We have today and we will enjoy it. We are now up to visitors and calls. Thanks for giving us time to settle in.

She is doing great! Making jokes, asking all of her visitors how they are doing and feeling! That's mom...always thinking of everyone else! She is tired, but doing awesome. She asked me to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

Out of Surgery

She is out of surgery, and so far so good! Barb, Nancy, Drew, Keeley, Pastor Shirley, Dad, Steve and I just met with the surgeon, and he said that things went as well as we could have hoped. He was confident that he was able to get the tumor as identified by the MRI.

She is groggy right now, but responding well to all of the questions and tests that they are giving her to make sure that nothing was affected while they were in there. She is even asking to go home tomorrow!

She will be in recovery for the next hour or two, and then we will be able to see her.

In surgery....

While she is in surgery, my mom has asked me to keep the blog updated. While they were checking her in, she asked me if I had a camera phone to "Take a picture for my blog!" It is not possible to put into words how much all of the love, support, and prayers from each of you means to her, and she wanted to be sure that you are all kept in the loop with everything that happens today. My mom has people all over the country thinking of her and saying prayers for her today, and all of your well-wishes and notes are keeping her going as strong as ever.

Right now we are sitting in the waiting room, watching the status board and waiting to hear something. Mom entered the OR at 7:58am, and they expect to start surgery around 9:00. They expect the surgery to last around 3-4 hours, and we will be sure to update as soon as we hear anything.

Thanks again for all of the prayers! Keep saying them this morning!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I sure did. Any time we have with family and friends is such an amazing gift.

Many have already heard but to those who have not, on Wednesday we were told the tumor is back. But oddly, it is now on the right side of my brain and is already quite big. So on Monday we met with a surgeon, we will then know our options. Right now we are praying that it will be operable. That will give me the best chance of fighting this again. How are we doing? Well it's not a big surprise, but of course the realization of what we are dealing with is gut wrenching. We are very grateful for the last 26 months that we have had, and it has been cherished more then you can imagine. My time with so many of you has been such a gift, and I am reminded of what a blessing all of you are to my life.

My guess is that I have many options yet for treatment. If I can get another two years of quality life that I have had, I will be so grateful. I know to many, two years seems like not enough, but to someone terminal it is another lifetime. It has been amazing to me to have learned that I am not sad by what I many not see or experience. But how very grateful I am for what I have already had. I have already had more then most.

I was told once "Those with cancer count their blessings, those without count their problems." I don't necessary think that is true, but if it is for you, Count your blessings everyday, praise the Lord in the good times, praise the Lord in the difficult times. He is my Lord and Savior and will be with me always. He gives me strength and grace to meet each day.

Hope this note is finding all of you well and happy. It has been a busy month, but full of many wonderful times. Linda and I traveled to Kansas in early October to visit Holly and Steve. We went shopping for a wedding dress. Holly, Linda, Karen (Steve's mom) and my self had a great time. Seeing Holly in a wedding dress was breath taking for me, it was a day I will always treasure. Praise the Lord for that day.

Thanks to soooo many of you for coming to the walk for Brain cancer research. Once again I am humbled for your willingness to support me and so many others. Thanks to my family, friends and a extra thanks for my neighbors who once again stepped up to volunteer for the event. We are so very blessed to have all of you in our life. Also to Keeleys mom who made the trip ,and to all of Drew's high school and college friends. You are unbelievable men and I have been bless to know you.

My next MRI is the day before Thanksgiving. Not expecting anything other then tumor free and yet very mind full of what this diagnosis is.

Hi and happy fall to all. As I am writing this, I am thinking we should turn on our furnace. It is 64 degree's in the house this morning. Wow another season is here. Not much new, I am working 4 days a week. I feel like life is back to normal, I don't think much about having cancer. Now and then it comes to mind, but it is not a contest anymore. Other then the lose of dear friends, and those still suffering so, I have been able to move on. I meet once a month at the Hope Lodge with other's going through Mayo with Brain cancer. It is wonderful meeting such great people and those of us from Rochester, try to in courage and give what support we can.

A roller coaster August

Hi to all my faithful blog readers. It has been a roller coaster of emotions this month. My MRI in July had brought a new twist to our journey. The radiologist thought there was a small spot on the original tumor sight. My oncologist didn't see it, but to be sure I had another MRI yesterday. They do not see what they thought they saw last month. My report yesterday was a clear scan. We were so very relieved. This month has been one of the most difficult months since my first diagnoses (almost 2 years in Sept). We saw first hand the down word progression of this disease in dear friend's. It's was difficult to see and realize the mirror of my possible future. We have now lost three dear friends in the last 2 months to brain cancer, two of which were diagnosed after me. Watching them, and their families courage, and faith as they left this earth was gut wrenching at first, but became a sense of strength for me as I waited for my next MRI. But through them, God gave me so much strength and grace to continue everyday life . I am sorry to have worried any of you, but I am not sorry to have had your prayers and strength with me this last month. It has meant more then I can ever explain. Once again I have come to more of an understanding of what being alive really means!

Hello,
I'm back, another month is over. What a wonderful summer it has been so far. I am doing well, and will have my next MRI the end of August. I am coming up soon on 2 years and wow what blessed 2years it has been. Drew and Keeley are settling into their new jobs, Holly and Steve are busy making wedding plans, Ed is working hard (summer is full of events for him). I am enjoying watching all the excitement.

The picture is a bunch of my brain tumor friends that got together for a night on the pontoon at Kulmann's. They have become very, very dear to me. However along with new friendships, come sad times as I watch some of their struggles. But they are upbeat, positive, warm, wonderful people, and my life has been blessed because of the time I have with them and all of you.

Not much is new for now, I will update again in September.

Hi everyone, here is hoping your having a GREAT summer. Where do I begin.... First congratulations to Steve and Holly. Steve proposed to Holly on July 3rd. We couldn't be more excited for the addition of Steve to our family. Holly is on top of the world.... and the plans are beginning. Early summer or late fall of 2009, depending on open dates at the church and venue (in Overland Park Kansas). CONGRAT S HOLLY AND STEVE, we love you so and will be with you every step of the way. (Marla, you called this one)

Ed, along with help from Linda and Dennis planned a 50 birthday party. What a night, the food, the family, friends and ex specially the entertainer's (you know who you are) made the night a success. A big thanks to all involved and all that came. It was very special for me.

The following weekend the six of us headed to Cadot to celebrate again, me turning 50. We didn't end up taking a Motor home, but a usual it all worked out for the best. Had a wonderful time, the weather was perfect. Special thanks to our driver Ed, he got us home safely at 3:45 am.

As most of you know by now, Relay for life is this coming Friday July 11th thru Saturday 7am. If you get a chance stop out, and say hi, opening ceremonies begin at 6pm University center fieldhouse. I will be saying a few words about the importance of research dollars, and what it has meant for my life.

Ahhhhh, what a wonderful time of the year! Working in the yard, twins on TV, pontoon ride, smell of the grill, sound of the lawn mower's, sitting out with the neighbor's. But the best of all, catching up with lifelong friends at all the graduations. Isn't that what is really important!

May was a busy and another phase in our life. Holly and Steve, Drew and Keeley surprised me by all being here on mothers day. What a treat. Drew graduated from college, I felt so blessed to be able to watch my 2nd child walk across the stage and get his diploma. Later that day we met Keeley's parents, grandmother, a sister and brother for the first time. The minute we met them we felt at ease and so comfortable with them. Both Steve and Keeley's parents are wonderful people, and I would feel so blessed to have them as in laws (hint, hint).

If anyone has a motor home that we can rent for June 28th and 29th, let me know. For my 50th birthday the family is going to Cadot to country fest. We had no idea it would be so hard finding a RV place to rent a Motor home. I might have to end up finding a hotel. But you know me I have this idea, of how I want to spend my 50th and determine to do it my way. God bless Ed and his putting up with my adventures. He doesn't even like country that well.

Brain cancer walk in Chicago/Thanks Sande

Hi family and friends, my tests and MRI yesterday was all good. They still do not see any re occurrence of the tumors. Each time we go through this it gets a little easier. I mean, I sleep more the night before, Ed and I are little on edge but not consumed with the what ifs. I think we both know that when or if they come back we are so truly blessed to have had all of these months of good news and me feeling so well through it all. We have lived as if I was dying. So if our lives ended tomorrow, for what ever reason we have had it all. So thanks to all for your friendship, time together, prayers, and continued support. All of this is why I am here today. Holly and Steve are doing well in Kansas (our little Dorothy). Steve has just been promoted, and Holly has just been offered a new job that she is so excited about. Drew and Keeley graduate next weekend, WOW. Drew is pretty sure he has a job in Rochester (yeah). We should now have extra money after 8 years of paying for some of college. But it looks like that will just go on gas. Oh well rather be here to go through the pains of life than not.
